What Does a Business Analyst Do?

A Business analyst is responsible for requirements development and requirements management.  They also are responsible for researching/analyzing the business requirements and assisting in translating technical requirements.  A business analyst may be asked to centralize services for more efficient work environments. 

The Business analyst can help improve the business system not just the business software.  They must be confident that their fundamental skills will not be outdated anytime soon.  Business analyst will assess the needs and determine the project goals.  Business analyst will be able to listen to the stakeholders to determine the needs of the business.  Business analyst will want to be in constant communication with the stakeholders. 

Business analyst will draw up scenarios with the stakeholders in mind also.  They will be able to explain the project scope from the lay person’s perspective and will utilize many tools when scoping out a project proposal.  A Business analyst has the ability to utilize a feedback survey to determine specific needs of the company.  They may find directing the designated tasks to in-house departments more beneficial to the company. 

 Work may be concerned with the performance of a company as a whole or a specific department.  And the BA  will ask for suggestions when writing the use case studies.  Business analysis will be able to tell why the problem occurs.  A Business analyst will be able to choose vendors from an objective point of view.  Business analyst will not surround him self or her self with people who do nothing. 

Business analyst is a people person with a nose for investigation and possibly a research person.  Often.   hired by big companies or a small consulting firm the BA is expected to have educational qualifications in his area of consulting and expertise. The Business analyst is the bridge between the customer and the required solution and is often the customer advocate within an Agile development team.  Business analyst is involved at some level throughout the entire system or software development life cycle.  The BA is responsible for creating and maintaining core operational metrics in support of production goals and strategies.  More often then not they are someone capable of troubleshooting.
